Default dyno runs

what are the highest numbers people are getting on dyno runs with these trucks. a friend of mine is telling me i can make around 500+ hp with my stock block, without having to go aluminum. just wondering it there is validity to his statements or just hopes and dreams. i know 500 hp in an ls1 isn't hard, but with the stock block on a truck was just making me wonder.

If you were going to make a 500 hp motor, then use the 6.0 stock iron block. It would be easy to do with the $$ of course. I don't think aluminum makes more hp than cast iron anyway.

Iron blocks are stronger anyway. Go with a 6l block and bore it from there. On an aluminum block you can change the liners and get a larger gain in bore then you can just boring out an iron block but the 6l bore is still bigger to start with. If you want 500hp at the wheels, NA, you better be ready to spend $10k. And another $3k on a tranny and good convertor. Must be nice to be rich!

Very achievable with pistons, heads, cam, and some NOS, converter, and trans work to hold the hp...lol

I had a stock 5.7 ls1 cam out of a 98 z28 given to me. it seems to be in really good shape. would it be worth my time to put it in my 5.3?

Well i guess, it will make a difference , but not as much as an aftermarket. Don't forget you are not going to gain as much as a car we don't spin our motors as fast and we don't have the compression...

I'm just saying if you are going to take it apart put a real stick in it, and know if you are going NA, NOS, or blower when you put the cam in and get the right one for the application. My eaton was right around 400 and Mixon has a 3:73 for sale for like 120. Just PM me and we can go from there...
