Default Dyno numbers

First I must say I'm not really impressed by the number that this motor put down. Seems there are guys with 5.3's and not many mods putting out this much if not more.

EDIT: opps forgot to include the first dyno run. He got a pretty good increase on HP but just a little extra tq.

It sure is a torquey bastard though, tough trying to keep the tires from roasting off the line now

Dan at FLP who did the tuning says the motor is not able to get enough air at the high rpms. He said he pulled a lot of fuel out up top but it keeps going rich above 5,200 rpms. He suggested that its either the truck intake manifold or stock air box is holding it back.

Anyways here it is.

I would be a little disappointed as well. You should be seeing 300hp pretty easy. Try to open up your intake and exhaust a little. The truck intake is very capable of surpassing your hp numbers, it should not be a factor yet. Then go back and try leaning it out a little more, especially up top. What octane are you tuned for and how much timing are you seeing?

I think you should be seeing 300hp easily, as well. Put on a CAI and some longtubes and get some new numbers.

Yeah I'm gonna try making a homemade CAI, but the LT's will have to wait till I get some extra cash since I have 4wd there aren't many options out there yet.

I didn't specify any octane recomendations but I was running 89 octane when he was tuning it.
I haven't scanned any logs yet so I don't know what kind of timing I'm getting yet. I'll have to get some logs this week.

Did some logging and found that I'm getting around 24* of timing. On one run I only saw about 8* to 9* of knock which was pulling out 8* of timing. I don't see where it would have came from. It came while only about 34% TPS and it wasn't during a shift either. It was around 2.4, .56
I cleaned the MAF and logged another run.
This time I only got 2* to 3* of knock. I logged burst knock as well but nothing came up.

On my 5.3 im running 93 in it and I see a little over 30*s of timing at WOT I dont see why you couldnt get close to that with premium but we need to know more of your mods and the vitals of your motor. Im seeing about 325 at the rear wheels but I have a CAI and dyntech lts plus my cam is a bit bigger and I have a top notch tune in my truck. You definately need to open up the air path ways. The lt's will help out so much but being a 4wd guy I know there arent many options for us I just happened to get a good deal on a used set.

Its a 98' LS1 with a TR220/220 114lsa cam and really no other mods except 180*, Elec fans, and a muffler. I'm using the stock 5.3 intake and injectors.

Well actually for the most part it is pulling the max timing because I believe 24* is what it was set for.
I'd hate to have to use premium just cause of the cost right now. Using 89 octane, its not pinging at WOT at all. The knocks were happening around part throttle for some reason. I wonder if its false knock or something else making noise and causing it.

I should have some kind of CAI by the end of the week, but the LTs are going to have to wait for some extra cash.

There are too many factors to compare one persons timing to another, especially in two different engines. However I would still think that you shouldnt be seeing that much knock with only 24* of timing. I guess the only real way to check for false knock would be to lower timing a few degrees and check for knock then. If your seeing the knock at part throttle then thats where to tuning needs to be done. In my opinion its better to tune by working your way to the top, idle, part throttle, then full throttle. I still believe that there is a little more to be had with your tune.
