Went out for lunch today from work. Truck started cutting out and backfiring badly. To make a long story short I've burnt up the third plug wire in about 6 months on #5 cylinder.
My first thought was the plug wire but when I pulled it off the first time I didn't see the problem. Wound up putting a new set of plugs in. When I pulled #5 plug it was sooted so looked at plug wire closer and found the crack. I've tried 2 sets of expensive heat/header boots. Thinking about making up some brackets to hold them away from the headers but that would be a PITA. Anybody got a solution?

No kidding! With all the room in that engine compartment and they have to make that #3 primary 180 like that. Then to top it all off, provide no help for your plug wires. Sheesh.
Those little sheet metal brackets are still hanging in there. I have not had any problems with the wires.
