Duramax coming soon, need performance advice!

OK, well its not my Duramax, but my pops is getting one so its close enough. It should be here in a few weeks, its ECSB 4wd White w/ Allison. He wants some more power out of it, so I recommended the Edge w/ Attitude, Intake, and a decatted downpipe. I havent heard of anyone running a decatted DP w/ the stock cat-back. All I hear about is people running a after market cat-back and not messing with the DP, so I am not really sure what improvement a DP will give you (although I think it would be a nice gain). Also, I know that the Edge has 5 power settings and that most people just run stage 1, but how would the allison hold up in 2wd with stage 2,3,4 or 5? Would it roast the TC or destroy the tranny?

Well, my neighbor across the street has that setup, and it will smoke the tires down the street, and he has the allison transmission. The programmer readjusts the tranny, and it shifts fast and firm. He keeps it at level 5 all the time, and that thing screams. Been about 3 months since he got it, and he has done no other mods, and it is holding up fine.

i've had about 25000 miles on a 90 hp edge and i just upgraded to the 125 hp attitude box, for the last 7000 miles, on level 5 the tranny slips in 5th gear, but is fine otherwise. other mods are 4" banks exhaust, afe filter, and modified stock airbox.
i keep the box on level 5 all the time and the thing really rips.
i can see a BD prepped Allison in my future.

edge w/ attitude. more power than the tranny can handle. the adjustability on the fly is just perfect. guys have gained nearly no power with 4" catback or the bigger downpipe. i believe the newer LLY motor code has a cat on it and a few states have it on the 04s. our 03 doesnt.

Abbo7,
Give me a hollar I can hook u up with anything Diesel Peformance wise. I recommend for gauges to get EGT, Boost, Tranny. Autometer, Isspro, couple other ones too. I have Autometer for all mine. For Boost get either a 35psi if your not gonna be doing anything other than a chip but if you are then get a 60psi. I also recommend the Edge Juice but if you want some series power go with Bully Dog 220hp/418tq chip. Exhaust you will want to go with 4" from turbo to tail just strait pipe dont put a muffler on it. Turbo to tail replaces the DP too. If you get a Edge then I also recomend getting a 400hp Torque Converter. from either Bullydog or Suncoast or ATS. If you want to you can give me a call on my cell 281-923-9145 and we can figure out a good setup for you.
Thanks
Sean

My 04 LB7 Duramax has no cat. The new LLY engine uses a cat and also has EGR. Some of the previous year trucks had a cat if they were california trucks I hear. My understanding is that getting the transmission to hold without slipping in 5th gear with the juice/attitude power levels and above is usually not as simple as swapping the torque converter.
FWIW, on the duramax sites that I see the VAST majority of guys run the juice for power tuning. There's probably at 10 guys running juice for every 1 guy running something else. Most people will also tell you that usually the juice exceeds its advertised power ratings while most others fail to reach thier claims.

You'll need the multiclutch converter, TransGo, and the C2 clutch pack to hold a lot more. You could do more clutch packs but then you may as well do the entire tranny.
The LLY is a lot different. Cat, EGR, different injector setup, Variable Vane turbo, more power, etc. I am gonna get that LLY when I order mine here pretty soon.
