Drivetrain maintenance?
Well it's been going on for about 2 months now. When I put it in drive or in reverse from a dead stop there is a slight clunk noise coming from either the drive shaft or the cone/nose of the trans. anyone else experience this? Do I need to greese anything? FYI,if it helps determine the maintenance, my truck has just hit the 55k mile mark.

In my opinion, it's pretty normal. My last two 1500's have pretty much done this right after 3K on the clock.
I personally think it's gear lash in the 10 bolt rear.
I've heard others mention binding splines on the slip yoke and output shaft of the tranny. You're supposed to grease them due to lack of lube. I droped my driveshaft and found about a tablespoon of ATF in the slip yoke, so I figured that it couldn't be binding due to lack of lube.

its a 99 with 55k on it thats good. i would have to go with the yoke. they had a service bulletin on it but no recall for them. (99-up) mine made a klunk when i took off and stopped. then i got the new yoke and no more klunk.

Do you think the clunk is hurting anything?

Both of my trucks had the same clunk, my 02 is not as bad as the 99. My 02 has over 78k miles and drives and runs like the day I bought it. My mom's 00 Z-71 has a loud clunk when you put it in reverse, it recently had a 100k mile preventative maintenance done and u-joints replaced. Every Chevy truck I've owned has always "clunked" when put in gear.
