Thoughts on Daily Driver NBS...

Hey Guys, I am looking for your opinions and experience with the mid-2000 trucks, specifically the Silverado 1500 and Avalanche 1500 years 2004-2006. I am looking for a good used truck that I can drive every day to/from work, especially in bad weather (lately here in FL the rain has been bad). I am trying to give my Pontiac G8 GT a break, and especially save it from potentially flooding while trying to get to/from work when it rains and the roads seem to instantly flood out. I have had too many close calls in the G8 the past couple months.
My main criteria is semi low mileage, i.e. under 120k miles, low maintenance, gotta have a V8 and 4x4. I have seen a few SIlverado and Avalanche's that I like and they can be bought for well under $15k.
Just want to know what everyone's opinions/experiences has been with these trucks since I have only owned the NNBS versions.
I've got my eye on a mid 2000's Silverado 1500 extended cab 4x4 right now.
Thanks!

I have only recently had my own and so far I really love it. I have had friends who have owned them for several years and all are happy with theirs too.
I like them because they are simpler than the new trucks. Less to go wrong, parts are plentiful, and in my opinion they don't look too dated.

I DD a 06 CC 4x4, 5.3.
Cant think of a better year for these trucks. Its great.
One thing needs mentioning. If you want any kind of power witout modding, get the 1500hd in favor of the 6.0 and 4l80.
The 5.3 in thos big truck, is gutless well at
East on oem 20's.
Even with basic mods.
Full header to tips exhaust, cai, tune.
Gutless.

thanks for the comments so far! If I buy one, I do not plan to mod it anymore than air intake, leveling it to get a little extra clearance and newer GM wheels/tires setup, but they will be 18" wheels.
Dont need a fast truck, already got 2 fast cars!

The 1500HD would be even slower than the half ton, just sayin. It would have more pulling power for sure but it will be a dog and the fuel mileage will suck pure ***. Think 8-12 in a 1500HD compared to 13-20 in a regular half ton.
Any of the 04-07(classic) body style are great trucks. They all have their goods and bads for sure, I personally went alot newer to stay away from rust problems up here in the northern states. As it's alot harder to find a older gen truck with no rust that somone doesnt think is worth gold, and I wanted the 6 speed trans.

although the 6.0L and the 4L80e in the 1500HD would be nice. I just dont need it. I just need something to get to and from and is reliable. Plus there are more 1500's with 5.3L's floating around in decent shape than 1500HD's.
I am going to go look at a 2004 Silverado 1500 this weekend!
