Drag racing tire pressure settings
#1
I have an 03 Sierra with factory general tires (255/7/16's). The recommended tire pressure is 35 psi for the rears and 30 for the fronts.
I am going to the track tomorrow morning so what do you all think I should set my tire pressure at. I was thinking of dropping the rears to at least 30 psi, maybe 28 psi.
Any suggestions for tire pressure would be appreciated. I really want to get the most traction I can with my crappy factory tires

Try 25 psi in the rear for your first run and go down 2 psi to get more traction as needed repeat this step in 2psi increments until satisfied. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

I run 28 in the Generals on the back and 35 in the front. Until the G80 started laying down I have been dead-hooking at the track on the Generals-have run a best 60ft of 1.86 but it runs 1.90-1.92 all day long. I am looking for some sticky tires now, just to see if it can leave harder.

Don't too underinflate either. It will cause a cup, underload and will cause a loss of traction. There is a fine line for pressure on radials. Some people I have read opt to keep the stock pressure up, but all rides are different.
Radials should be in the mid 20's somewhere and slicks in the teens.
Start with the basic parameters and begin dropping to find the best psi for you.

thanks for all the info! I ran 28-30 psi most of my runs and the truck performed well!
thanks again! <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

Have you guys ever felt the sidewall on a TF/D, TF/FC, A/FD, A/BD or A/FC. They are paper thin. You can flex the sidewall between your thumb and index finger. Those cars run between 4.5 and 5 pounds. I'd be real careful about convincing my street tires they were drag slicks for 1320 feet and then running on them at 70 MPH on the way home from the strip. The best thing to do is get a set of slicks for the drag strip.
