Default Don't laugh! Silverado SS exhaust on my Hemi Ram?

OK, laugh! Yes, a GM muffler and tailpipe on my Dodge Ram! I'm going through mufflers again, can't find one that doesn't resonate in the cab on my Hemi Ram. I thought of the SS system because the 6.0L LQ9 and the 5.7L Hemi have almost identical power outputs, 345 HP for both and 375 tq for the Hemi and 380 for the LQ9. I had an SS system on my 00 5.3L Silverado and liked it, I should have stayed with it but no!!!! Anyway, if this idea is totally stupid, I may just go back to stock. The Hemi exhaust is actually designed well, just no rumble. I'm tired of the interior resonation between 1600-1900 rpm's, just like my Silverado had. The SS muffler solved that, do you think it would work on a Hemi? An engine is bascially a big air pump regardless of who's make it is. Some have always said I would come back to GM, I may but just a little at a time! What ya think?

personally i really like the hemi exhaust sound , i wish silvys would sound like that from factory!even the tundra sounds better than the siulvy, but i think the ss muffler would be cool , especially the bad *** tips.

I agree on the Hemi sound but it's the 03 Rams, not the 04 or 05's. The 03's had one cat and no resonator on the tailpipe and sounded good. For 04 and newer, they added two cats and a resonator on the tailpipe. Even if you take the resonator off, it still doesn't sound the same as an 03, the two cats I think. I just thought this would be a way to get a little rumble (SS exhaust) and have a factory muffler with a built in resonation chamber. I'm still debating, I may just say **** it, and go back to stock. I won't have a rumble but I also won't have any annoying interior noise either.

I'm not sure why but RAM's always seem louder than Chevys with similar exhaust. I had a friend that liked my old system and decided to do something like that on his brand new hemi. It turned out to be almost twice as loud as mine and a lot more drones in the cab. Can't remember if it was an 03' or 04' though. It would be interesting to see what happens regardless.

I know what you mean about being louder, it is. The first system I put on the Ram was a BIG Magnaflow 12588, it's a 3" SI & 2.5" DO muffler, I had one on my Silverado and it was very mellow. When I first fired up my Ram after it was installed, I couldn't believe how loud it was, I mean freaking loud! Three mufflers later and I'm also using the factory tailpipe with resonator, I can't find one I like. I have a BIG magnaflow on now, same size a the 12588 (5x11x22"), it's a 12589, 3" SI/SO. It's not bad actually, the best I've had but it still has that hum (resonation) between 1600-1900 rpm's. That's where I swear I drive at most of the time, at any speed. I know the SS exhaust is a crazy idea and may go back to what I know will work, stock. I really didn't notice much of a performance increase with any muffler over stock, just a sound increase. Like I said, the stock system performs well, just quiet. But, I always hear my little voice saying "stock sucks", maybe not in this case though.

I think its a good idea and a bad idea. I like the idea, but have also been around to see where this kinda thing takes you. I have a feeling that around X-mas, when you are on your 6th set-up, you'll be wondering why you didn't leave it alone! ...just kidding, I'm betting it would look and sound sweet.

Do the SS exhaust and a LQ9 6.0L swap. That should get you the sound you're looking for.

****, I'm saying why didn't I leave it alone now!! Stock is sounding better and better. I'm not the only Hemi guy to say this, alot have tried aftermarket systems and mufflers and have gone back to stock, I'm just more stubborn. Most have reported the same thing, not much performance increase and the interior noise killed them.
