Default Does your Magnaflow DRONE? SOUND CLIPS ADDED

Hey guys,
I instaled my Magnaflow cat back a couple days ago.#15778 single out the side.
I am happy with the fit and finish.
It sounds great, deep and powerful, not too loud.
Just like everyone else says.

BUT, It definately drones a bit at 1700-2000 rpm.
at all other rpm it sounds nice and clear, you can hear the beat of the engine, but at 1700-2000 there is only a deep bass tone. you can no longer hear the rhythm of the motor.
This is very clear and right at take off, and between about 60-80mph w/3.42s.

I read alot about this system before I bought it. I've heard a couple people with the duals complain, but not with the single.

OK the Question, can it be "fixed"?

Give it another 100 miles and it should mellow out a bit. I noticed that when i first installed mine but now it is nearly unnoticeable.

I agree. You might also check to see how close the tailpipe is to the body of the truck. Mine kinda vibrated back thru the bed when I first installed it because I only had like an 1/8th of an inch between the tip and the quarterpanel of the bed. I losened the clamps and had my wife put her foot into the tip and push it down (while I tightened up the clamp) until I have more like 1/2 inch or more clearance. Believe it or not, it made a HUGE difference.

OK, I'll give it some more time.
I have about 3/4" between the tip and the body.
I wonder how some headers will affect this?
Also, I will be getting my tuned PCM any day now (I HOPE!)
Does anyone know if the sound might change with the tune?

My last truck with headers and a MAC muffler sounded so clear and powerful, from idle to redline. I guess I am hoping for that sound quality again.
I would have gone with the MAC exhaust on this truck, but the magnaflow system looks great, and everyone says it sounds great too. The sound clips I heard were promising. I am thinking of swapping out the Magnaflow muffler for a MAC muffler if this doesn't get better, but that's a shot in the dark too.
thanks for listening. lol

My Magnaflow had drone at 1700-2000 RPM's when it was new also, now it does not drone at all. Give it a few hundred miles, it needs some heat up and cool down cycles to break in. Give it some time you will love it...

also a good tip is to put the muffler as far back in the exhaust as you can that way there is a shorter distance for the sound waves to travel, resulting in a higher natural frequency of the exit pipe.

I have zero drone. About 10% of the time I wish it was louder but you can't have it both ways I guess (unless you get a cutout). I'm like you and listened to serveral exhaust before buying the Magnaflow catback just for the drone issues I heard with others.
