Default DOD 5.3 vin digit?

If this is in the wrong forum, feel free to move it...but...

Can anybody tell me what the DOD motor in the 2007 silverado has for the 8th vin number? I'm trying to find out for my uncle - he ordered his truck with it, but doesn't seem to think he has it..bad mileage, no shut-off indicator on the dash. 8th digit is M on his...

vin is 2GCEK13MX71675941

I've just spent a couple hours on the internet/here searching, thanks for the help....

Well, it looks like 00SS was correct, not that I really doubted him, but I went and looked at my old man' s truck, and he has a J-code engine, and his sticker indicates "active fuel management".

Why isn' t he happy with his truck? I' d give my left nut to be in the market for a truck like that!

I think after a couple of bad experiences with his last truck, and now this one getting about 15 mpg when it's supposed to be 20, 21...he's just fed up with things. He ordered the DOD motor, but he doesn't have the indicator on the dash for when cylinders are off (they have that, right?), and his mileage sucks..so...now he's just not driving the thing.

TO the guys with the DOD, what's your mileage been?

That sucks. Did he order his truck from the factory or through another dealership? If he special ordered from the factory, the dealership screwed him. If he had his dealer get a truck from another dealership, that may have been the closest thing they could find. I don' t know if there is a DOD indicator on the dash or not, my **** mom won' t let me drive the ******* thing! She thinks she can drive better regardless of all the ******* bumps and scrapes on every vehicle she' s ever owned. Stupid bitch!

J M and 0 seem to be the 3 5.3 codes. I've been looking at NBS trucks online so I know. Y is the elusive 6.0 C is the little 4.8. X (appropriately) is the V6. J is the most common 5.3 I see so I would guess it's the AFM. 0 I'm pretty sure is flex fuel. So M would be the aluminum block option possibly???

He definitely ordered his truck custom, not through a dealer trade...

Darth, that's too bad lol I hate when people who have nice cars thrash em constantly...

Cashdude, I've had a hard time even finding M, but I'm pretty sure it's just the aluminum version like you said

Anyone else have a word on this?
