Default Do lightweight forged pistons make a shuffle sound?

Just as the title says... do they shuffle a lil bit. Kinda sounds like piston slap, but a different tone. same pattern though.

Someone said after the rebuild that it would be a lot noisier cuz of the lightweight pistons and stroker crank and rod...true? false?

Forged pistons may make noise when cold just as the stockers do. Most pistons are not round when the engine is cold, they grow into a more round condition after warm up. Forged pistons grow differently than cast pistons as well.
How bad is the noise compared to the stockers?

the noise is pretty loud, and it's not just on cold starts, it's all the time. I've been told the shorter, lightweight forged pistons tend to shuffle (move back and forth) on the piston pins axis. The stock ones are longer and have more material to grab the cylinder walls and there fore don't move around so much. It sounds logical....

Don't know how much truth there is to this but I've heard people say that a motor that is built "loose" or "too loose" will have noise like you are describing. I can say this much, I've been around a bunch of motors with forged piston and have only heard minimal piston slap on cold start.

My engine doesn't make any odd noises like you describe. I have Ross pistons in mine, what brand are you using?

Who built the motor? What did they gap the rings at? What else was done during the swap?

a stroker piston will have more "rock" in the bore since the piston itself is shorter, less skirt on the walls. and normally forged pistons will run twice the wall clearance as a cast or hypereutectic piston will.

i set my piston to bore clearance at .0055 on the 440 in my cuda, Ross forged pistons. itll clatter a little when its cold, but not when warmed up. you cant hear much over the solid roller lifters w/ .025" lash anyway, lol. sounds like a coffee can full of rocks being shaken under the hood.

sounds like you're clearance is on the loose side if it doesnt go away when its hot, but it all depends on how loud it is. one of those things i'd rather hear it in person than tell you whats wrong over the internet.
the ring gap wont make em any louder. CHIP
