Do aftermarket MAFs actually improve performance?

pretty much what I thought. Sometimes when you read those Summit catalogues you almost get convinced by their gained horsepower figures LOL. At what point HP wise do you need to step up?

they basically report a higher airflow to the PCM. The maf is a heated wire setup. Air coming through cools the wire, and the pcm calculates the airflow by looking at the amp draw on the maf to maintain a certain wire temp. Aftermarkets report a cooler temp, higher ampdraw which results in more fuel. I used one once, before I was tuned, and was told to get rid of it, or the guy wouldn't tune the PCM for me. He said it was too risky, being that he didn't know what the maf was reporting and wouldn't be able to tune properly. if it your only mod (for me, it was a CAI and a MAF on an LT1) then you'll see some gains, but if you're tuned, dont bother.
