Sorry you didn't go any quicker...Heat sucks!
Thanks for the info about the air filter test.

Y2k what was the mph at 14sec and what was the mph at 15sec? The mph is what is going to tell traction is needed but mph is the key then work with the traction. Mph tells if you are making HP. Once you got the mph then you can work on the traction...

Maybe I'm bogging it off the line to much, I only get a very little amount of tire spin. I've tried standing on the brake until it stalls at about 1600 then nailing the gas and it spins bad enough to get wheel hop. That happened on the previous night, the 14.92 was with very little gas off the line. I did try to launch at different rpm's last night but nothing seemed to help my times.

Its the HEAT!!!

Heat sucks big time.

Here is something to think about.

I ran my '00 SS in the mid summer heat and ran a 13.11@103. Not good considering what I had done to it and the fact that it ran 13.15@106 bone stock in cold weather. I was dissappointed to say the least. I thought a 3200 stall, lid, hpp3, and ftra would have done me better than that. I went back to the track later in the fall with the same mods and proceeded to click off a 12.68@108. That's an improvement of .43 seconds and ~5mph and the only difference was the weather.

Don't worry about what your truck runs in the summer. It will only get you depressed thinking you wasted your money. The way I look at it is if you can equal your best good weather run, in the summer heat, than you will be very happy when the good weather comes back around.

PS - Judging from your MPH I would say you could see 94-95mph in better weather.

97° and humid. I don't even think about going to the track when it's that hot out. Maybe to spectate but, thats it. Its like your baking your brain when you put your helmet on, Oops you don't need a helmet just yet.

I still am amazed that these truck run so good with so little done to them. I tried telling me friend to get a chevy pickup instead of the Dakota but, he wouldn't listen and blew his motor on 8lbs of boost.

Heat and humidity will definetly kill some power. Back in April at the strip with my bike I was running consistant 151mph. This was with temps in the high 80s but relatively low humidity, maybe 65% or so. 2 weeks ago I went back to the same strip and the biatch would only run 148 mph and I have made NO changes to it. The weather though was 90 degrees and 90% humidity, this was at 8pm I noticed the power loss all the way through the run. Didn't leave as good, 2 mph off in the 1/8 and 3-4mph off in the 1/4. I hope with some good weather I get the power back. I am probably going to run my truck this sunday, the temps will be in the 90s and humidity will be in the 90%. Not expecting to much. Keep ya posted

Default Disappointing night at the track!

The first bad news was that Sears Point cancelled their Wednesday night drags due to Nascar, I was smart enough to double check this time. Went to Sacramento instead, it was damn hot, 97* and sticky. I like it hot but this was tooooooo hot. My best was far slower than my previous best of 14.92, only got a 15.33. I was disappointed to say the least! Especially after I dropped about 150 lbs from the truck which I believe hurt me instead of helping. All the weight I removed was from the back, ie: tailgate, hitch and spare. I had real bad traction problems, had to bog it off the line. My 60' were from 2.38-2.46, times were 15.33-15.45 between 90.50-91.25 mph. I did make it to he final four, won my first four races. Guess what I did? A big old fat RED LIGHT, .392 reaction, DOH! MY RT's had been in the .650 range with a best of .535. I believe I still would have won if I didn't red light, ran a Z28 than dialed a 13.75. It may have been the red light but I beat him by 3 truck lenths, OH WELL. Did see a new Ford S/C Super Crew Harley truck run, he only managed a best of 15.44, still had the dealer plates on it. Also saw a new Camaro SS run a 12.62, he too still had the dealer plates on. Over all I had fun but was disappointed with my trucks performance. I believe the weather had A LOT to do with it, but who really knows. OH yeah, I also tested a K&N filter to a paper Purolator filter, in two runs the K&N was only .07 seconds faster in both runs. So much for their claims of 10-20 hp more!

Great reaction times Jim. The heat does not have to be a bad trip to the track..You can still test mods and compare to your cold weather times.. You can use weather calculators to get your true altitude density..Thats all you need to compare your time and see if you will be faster givin the same set of weather conditions..

I have a 90 dollar weather station..It only measures humidity and air temp but I always call and get the barometer to do the calculations with..Every run, I write down the air and humity and later add the barometer.. You put these into an online air density calculator and you can correct your times for the heat. It works really well and is good to use in the heat,, to keep the spirits high..Of course if you have traction problems, it won`t mater much..

Maybe someone can post Larry Cato`s correction factor link..It is a cool tool to use in the summer heat racing..

I would use the air temp/hum. gadge to set my dial in times for bracket racing.. I had figured out that 1 deg of temp change would equal .01 in ET change on my Hawk..10% in hum. change also equalled about .01 ET change.Haven`t checked that formula on a 6200 lb truck but it was dead on in my 3500 lb Hawk..
