Re: Detroit Locker or Eatons?
A Detroit Locker is a full blown locker, which means it mechanically and automatically locks both axle shafts together so that they function as one. They will, or at least are supposed to, unlock during cornering or turning and not under power.
Detroit lockers are 100% grade A pure beef. They will not wear out or break. You would break an axle shaft before you broke it. They run around $550 and replaces the carrier, so you would have to reset the gears. On top of that, you do get all the down sides common with lockers. It will bang and pop around corners, disengage and engage irregularly, and spin the inside wheel or drag the outside wheel on a turn when it's under power (like a spool will do).
An Eaton is a limited slip, meaning it uses clutches and/or springs to apply force to both axle shafts at the same time without locking them together. It provides improved traction over an open diff with better street manners than a locker.
The bottom line, a Detriot the best for traction but a limited slip is best for the street. With that said, this summer I'll be replacing my g80 and 3.42's with a 4.10 and detroit 'cause I don't give a ****. But then again I am running spools in my jeep.... <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Re: Detroit Locker or Eatons?
They are both about the same. The detroit is a little rougher when it locks. I have an eaton in my truck and I love it. The eaton is also a rebuildable unit so if it breaks you can fix it. If a detroit breaks you throw it away and get a new one.

many people with Eaton Posi's have worn the clutches out very quickly......
many people have complained about full lockers being harsh and not road friendly for a daily driver
I am going to go with an Eaton E-locker because it's going to pay for itself eventually and won't wear out.... not to mention no clicking or clanking and it is completely selectble, so you can have the best in perforamance in both worlds.
