Same here, I did this on all my previous Z28's, did it on our Yukon, Blazer, and my Dad's Caddy Seville, CTS, and S10 4.3!

No codes / problems with those vehicles.

" My A/F on my dynos were smooth across the rpm range, so it must have been metering just fine without it."

How is its metering at part throttle? Did you check your LTFTs before and after pulling it?

If your airflow ahead of the sensor is good and smooth you might not need the screen. If the air is turbulent the screen will help with that.

All I was doing was correcting your post about the purpose of the screen. It is not to keep things from getting into the intake, that is your filters job. The screen is to smooth the airflow through the MAF/HFM. If the airflow is turbulent or uneven the meter can't meter it properly as it only samples a small portion of what passes through it and your computer makes assumptions about the total flow from that small sample.

"IMO the screen is as useful as the coolent running through the TB. "

If you ever had a TB freeze up on the highway you might change your mind about how useful that is too. If you live somewhere that doesn't get extremely cold then that may not be needed either.

I belong to a local corvette club in Detroit and one of the guest speakers was the chief engineer for the corvette engine program. He told us the air screen was removed on the 02 Z06 and it gave them almost 2 HP over the 01. That was with the newer cam. I don't know what effect it would have on the truck engine, but I would bet the screen removal would add 1-2hp as well.

Thanks for all the replies, I am still considering it, but if it gets messed up I would rather not buy a new one. I have heard bad things about the aftermarket ones, whats the deal on them? I heard that they are not compadible with the Hypertech and cause it to act up?

Any gains are going to be mental with this, it's not like you are increasing the air volume by that much CFM to yield much power. These GM MAFs are **** about their reading unlike Fords MAF which are much more forgiving.

Time and money is better spent elsewhere... like bypassing the coolant in the TB or limiting EGR flow.
