Default de screened MAS

I was told by a friend that I should descreen my mass air flow sensor. He was told that it makes a big difference and help with gas milage. I would like to know if it helps and how easy is it to do. Thanks

I asked the same question a couple of days ago, and everyone told me not to do it. If you do it, it's not enough to notice it on the street.

i find that info hard to believe. if anything, descreening MAF would hinder performance. i removed mine last year and i did not see any increase in HP, throttle response, or MPG. actually my MPG may have gone down. the screen is there for a reason. the honeycomb straightens out the turbulent air that enters your intake. mine also throws codes on a scantool too. i'd leave it in. better safe then sorry. if there are any gains, it is nothing noticable, so itn't really worth doing. i wish i left mine in. hope this info helps

I guess some trucks are different. My truck picked up rpms noticibly quicker. I felt a good part throttle increase. I yanked the screen on my Blazer and Z28 too. No probs with them either. I did have an 01' silv. with the 4.3 and i felt the loss of power when i pulled the screen on it. I guess it depends on mods, tuning, and alot of other things. I think its there to keep large pieces of dirt and stuff out of the intake and keep dirt and things from hitting the sencors. Ive seen alot of people not change there filters enough and have leaves and bugs stuck to the screen. I am for trying it, sorry guys.

No, it is there to smooth airflow through the MAF/HFM so that it can properly meter the air mass entering your engine.

Its a restriction, that i gained some hp without. My A/F on my dynos were smooth across the rpm range, so it must have been metering just fine without it. Go to the car side of this site, most of the fastest N/A cars pulled them too. Even with the size of shot i have, its reading fine. If it read incorectly even for a split second with a big dry shot my motor would blow.
IMO the screen is as useful as the coolent running through the TB.

But to each his own
