sorry i was not trying to be a dick, i am just stating from my personal experience, i am sure someone won't agree with me... I swapped out the exhaust on my mustang like 10 times, lol... I have done my truck's exhaust 4 times, and I am about to do it again..

if you want a more nascar/open header type of sound then keep it straight as possible with a H-pipe and use a straight threw muffler.. The more curves you put into the exhaust the more hollow it will sound, kinda like a 5.0 mustang... The bigger the pipe size the deeper but less defined the exhaust will sound.. A smaller pipe will not be as deep but more defined... Think of exhaust like musical instruments, a trumpet is higher pitched but really defined notes, a tuba is really low and deep with less definition...

Is it true that the farther forward the connection between the pipes the better?

How much would you typically charge to do an exhaust from the headers back?

yep, you want the connecting piece as close as possible, the main purpose is to equalize the exhaust pressure on each side... The more equal the pressure the better they would scanvenge...

Just depends on how much i would charge, it was like 8 years ago... If you wanted all mandrel, then it would basically double the price, cause it took twice and long... Back then, it was like 150-300 depending on the mufflers...

damn that's cheap. I'm pretty sure I'm not going to run any mufflers. The real question is, how can you connect the pipes early on before the crossmember? Wanna fab me up something? lol

IF your wanting the sound/loudness do like i say just keep the pipe as straight as possible. I run 2 magnaflow mufflers in series for a total of 36" of muffler, and mine is still really freaking loud, but it sounds damn good...

IMO you should look into a this setup... 3" off the headers, into a Ypipe, 3" in and 3.5" out,,, the a straight piece of pipe into a round straight threw magnaflow.... That would sound NASTY!!!! plus alot cheaper and have tons of flow...

That's actually what I was thinking about doing, except I see no reason to spend the money to go from a 2.5" y pipe to 3". I already have a 2.5" Y, I could just gut the cats and I was going to add a 4" pipe off the Y with a magnaflow race series muffler. BUT, if I would get better performance and sound from the H pipe I think that would be the way to go. Thoughts?

IMO 4" would just be deep, with no definition... Now 2.5 true duals with a H-pipe and 2 magnaflow race mufflers would be really loud but have some good definition... As for performance, I dunno, IMO exhaust is really all about sound and not much performance gain as long as you don't go tooo big or tooo small...

so if i retain my 2.5" y pipe what size single pipe should i go with? 3.5"? The race series mufflers are coming in 3.5" and 4" inlet/outlet

3.5 would work, but keep the transition smooth... So 2.5 -> 3" then expand to 3.5 inch, then after the muffle add a 3.5 -> 4 tip
