Default Curious? Which would be faster??

Me and a friend were talking **** back and forth the other day, friendly like..over who would have the faster truck.. His is an extended cab short bed '04 with the 5.3 and 3.73's...mine, is a regular cab short bed '03 with the 4.8 and 3.42's...but, for some odd reason..my truck seems alot quicker than his, as I have been in hsi when he's floored it.

Anyways, the argument was that despite his 15-or so more hp than me, and his barely better gears..my biggest advantage would be the weight difference, yet he seems to think that hsi extra weight would be equalized by his extra power/gearing...which one of these would be the faster truck? Hell, I saw somewhere a extended cab short bed with a 4.8 ran a 16.1 bone stock..so, I would hope like hell my truck has 15's in it.

You hear alot of stories like that..... Some arent true though....

Depending on where you are and what the conditions are when they ran..

I ran a 16.1 with PCM, HEADERS, 4.10'S

5.3 is a stout motor.. friend has a 99 4.8 RCSB and I have a 04 ECSB and mines quicker.. he cant stop riding in my truck LMAO:-P

as far as wieght.. its probably only 200 pounds if that?

Just cause its a Ext cab doesnt mean he's slow.. another example, i raced a friends 01-02 4x4 RCSB in my 04 ECSB and pulled 1-2 trucks on him.. i was shockled cause I thought I would loose cause I was heavy..

run them and find out.. we bs race all the time in our trucks down here. Its fun cause it takes 2 hours to hit 60 LMAO compared to the cars we have. But truthfully given all things are equal i think the 5.3 would be quicker

Yeah, i get what you are saying.

My thing is...he won't race me though..atleast he wouldn't the other night. My '03 is quicker than a guy I know's '02...the only downside I see to my truck..from a dead stop is, the fact that I have tires that are taller than stock..on 17" avalanche wheels..so that kinda kicked my gearings ***...but, it still does fine from rolls.

Well the HP is not off that much compared with the two... I think its like 270 to 285 "I think"

But as I remember the Torque is where the 5.3 has the 4.8

But yeah it depends on a lot of things.... but some of these guys with the

15.5-15.3 stock or with headers are just bullshiting... unless they have factory freak or have the highest powered 5.3 in the world from the factory....

Most ext.cab 5.3L should be running high 15s.. 15.7-15.9 IMO

Your RCSB 4.8L shouild be running mid 15s.

Now, start adding a bunch of weight on either truck and things get skewed real quick.

I am driving my buddies 02' Ext.Cab 4x4 2500HD right now because my 01' RCSB 4.8L has a flat and this thing is a total DOG! compared to my lil truck. He has an intake, exhaust and custom tune. I have a custom tune only. LOL

owning both and racing both i know... because he has 3.73s he'll most likely edge u out, but the race will be close. if u had equal gears i'd say it would be really close

anyhow, i just raced an 03' 4.8 regcab w/ 3.42s and probably put 2.5 cars on 'em. both stock, only difference was that he had 4.8 and 3.42s

in my experiance, extcab makes about 1-1.5 car difference... so i'd say ya he'll take u

get the gears and u'll make it a much closer match

Actually my 02 with asm longtube headers, stock cats and gibson supertruck exhaust ran 9.76 1/8 and 14.9- 1/4. This was with the stock 3.42 gears too. I raced a stock 03 that would run 9.90's 1/8 consistantly no mods at all. I could pull 9.90's 1/8 every now and then off the factory lot with just the shift points adjusted. This was in the heat of the summer in jackson sc.
