Corsa exhaust install problems :(
#1
Well I just finished installing a corsa side exit exhaust on my 03 Sierra ECSB with the 5.3L. and i had a few problems.
In fact I am pretty pissed off that I paid so much cash for an exhaust that fit this poorly. I think I will need to take it to a muffler shop for modification.
Lets cover the problems.
1st The pipe after the muffler in the rear of the truck is touching the shock.
2nd The tips are completely off and practically touch the rear fender.
I know what Im doing and have installed exhausts before and despite hours of adjustment the exhaust still fits poorly.
Anyway just my 2 cents. Personally I would recommend against a Corsa exhaust. Go with another brand that has a better fitting system.
If anyone has any tips let me know.

yea, i am willing to bet that's the problem.
the system is probably made for a stock height truck; the mounts will be for a stock location, once you lower the truck, the geometry changes...
i had a couple of problems with my old flowmaster setups when i lowered the truck. i had to get some custom piping made.

Yea you guys are probably right. The lowering definitely effected something.
Im going to get the exhaust modified by a local muffler shop, Thermal Research and Development Exhaust. They make awesome custom mandrel bent, full stainless systems. I already have one of their 3" systems for my Turbo honda and its equally as impressive as the Corsa.
I probably should have gone there for the exhaust since they would have charged $200+ less then the corsa. Oh well the corsa has a beautiful muffler and tip! It also sounds nice too.
thanks for the posts.

Well I finally got my exhaust to fit just right! Anyway the exhaust just needed to be moved around a little and now it fits perfect. I love the system! The sound is awesome.
It does seem that I have lost some low end power. Probably because of the larger 3" piping. I kinda wonder if 3" was to big. Of course the fact that the factory piping is 2 3/4 inches going with a 1/4 inch larger piping makes sense.
Has anyone else noticed a power loss in the low end? Has anyone dyno tested or ran their truck at the track AFTER they installed a Corsa exhaust.
Any info would be most appreciated.
thanks,

My truck picked up bottom end with my corsa. And yes, the drop does affect the system. The tips nearly drug the ground on my truck. I pulled off the tips and have it dumped where it goes over the axle.

I'm glad to hear that you got the system installed correctly. I had one on my '01 GMC 1500, and I had the stock system off and Corsa system on in under an hour. Mine was the stock ride height. I didn't notice any loss in low-end power on my '01. I'm running one now on my '02 6.0L GMC, and the sound and performance is just as great! It completely eliminates the resonance that you can usually get from other systems. I had a 70-series Flowmaster muffler on before the Corsa, and I considered sticking toilet paper in my ears. It was much better after the bullets were installed, but it still was NOT a Corsa system!

Yea I LOVE the sound and feel of this new exhaust! I really only drove my truck once when I made my last post. I just took it for a REAL spin on the street and freeway. All i have to say is WOW!
The top end and low end power is awesome. From 3000 rpms up it really pulls and I can definitely feel a mild power increase. It also feels like from a dead stop and overall I have more response from the engine.
The exhaust is almost silent when cruising on the freeway and NEVER becomes annoying, wether Im on the street or freeway!
Hearing my engine wind up with the exhaust makes me SO happy I went with a chevy v8. There is no sound like it! And to think I almost got a supercharged Tacoma Srunner
All hail to the power of the might 5.3L!
Anyway I highly recommed this system to anyone! I think its gotta be THE best system out there for our trucks.
