Default Converting a LS1 style motor in a 03 silverado

Well, basically I am helping my buddy setup a stroker motor for his 03 silverado (Drive by wire). We are going to using the 4.8 iron block and get a stroker kit to reach around 400-408cu. This guy Joe Overton that I know is going to tune it, but he can't get into the computer on these year silverado, etc. So I will help my buddy find a camaro computer, the heads, the manifold, etc. Now the problem is has anyone done this. How can I convert the truck to accept a cable setup like the older trucks... Will all the stock gauges not work if I run the camaro computer and harness(probably will not). COuld I piggy back it with the harnesses, is there a conversion kit??? Anyone???

Thanks Mark Tisdale

Im not a %100, but I don't think that it is possible or a good idea to use a 4.8/5.3 block to yeild a 400 or 408, you can easily get a 408 with a stroke on the 6.0 motors, without and bore either. With a safe bore on a 6.0 and a stroke you can yeild a strong 427 7.0L.

as far as the tuning, I would ask in the tuning section of this website.

Good Luck

buy the damn liscense to tune the correct year truck.

as for the motor, 4.8/5.3's can be bored to 3.9 to yield 5.7L and then stroked for another 20 cubes or something like that, but you won't be close to 400, you need big bore for that and it's simply not possible in the 4.8/5.3 block, you'll need a 6.0 block.

as for cable conversion...... waste of time. just do it right. and buy the tuning for that year truck, it's not that much.

stick with the drive by wire and get the correct tunning software check out hptuners its not that much and you would probably spend the same if not more to convert to all the other crap. jmo if you do a search there are alot of threads discussing how not to bore the 4.8/5.3 to a 4" or bigger bore also.

Yea I hear that, lazy sucker! haha

Btw, yea I found out that the 4.8L will not work so I guess we will be selling it as a running unit. Guys let me know if you want a awesome 4.8L with under 30k miles...

Thanks Mark Tisdale

The biggest Ive heard a 4.8/5.3 bored out was to a ls1 bore and then using a 4inch stroker kit to yield a 383. I dont know if it would be possible to sleeve it and go any bigger but I wouldnt mess with it.

I will probably just get a rapid or HPE iron 402/408 shortblock and get teh tunning software, or I know of some dyno company's around here that will probably have it.

THnaks Mark

But, can I use the drive by wire on the camaro, vette style intake manifold??
