Considering swapping to a smaller cam, new Cam specs inside...

I'd wait until you get the converter. I don't understand why you would care that you're revving the dog **** out of it, you have 4.10s and are getting a 2800 stall. I do agree that you will have a little better feel out of it mid range, but you still only have 280 ci, a small cam change isn't going to render enough improvement to justify $200+ in my opinion.
Milling the heads will help too, but it seems like a lot of work/time for the outcome. If I was going to pull off the heads, I'd wait until I could go ahead and do a valve job (or just get better valves), some port work and maybe some rocker arms. I hate doing stuff without a good SOP improvement, once again, just my opinion. I do like that you have enough determination/time to play with cam specs and tuning so the rest of us have reference points, gotta make sure you know it's appreciated.

Mainly the part throttle TQ... I drove a friends 5.3 yesterday with basically the same mods as mine but he does not have a cam and his truck was really smooth and the part throttle TQ/acceleration was really nice... The top end is nice on my current cam but I have to rev the crap out of it... Mainly looking for more power under the curve...

Soon as you get the converter just bring the truck up here and I can give you a ride home. I can probably have it out the same day if not the next.

Yeah i looked at that cam, but I am trying to keep the overlap to roughly -8* so I don't have to fight any idle problems, since I am tuning it myself, and I am not the best tuner..... That cam trying to keep the overlap to -8* and DCR close to 8.00 would be a rather difficult combination...
