I'd wait until you get the converter. I don't understand why you would care that you're revving the dog **** out of it, you have 4.10s and are getting a 2800 stall. I do agree that you will have a little better feel out of it mid range, but you still only have 280 ci, a small cam change isn't going to render enough improvement to justify $200+ in my opinion.

Milling the heads will help too, but it seems like a lot of work/time for the outcome. If I was going to pull off the heads, I'd wait until I could go ahead and do a valve job (or just get better valves), some port work and maybe some rocker arms. I hate doing stuff without a good SOP improvement, once again, just my opinion. I do like that you have enough determination/time to play with cam specs and tuning so the rest of us have reference points, gotta make sure you know it's appreciated.
