Connecting rod bolt questions
I'm working on an engine for my sons truck and have an issue with some rod bolts.
I over rotated the rod bolts on the #8 rod and wanted to replace the bolts so I ordered 2 GM bolts (11510158). When I got the bolts they are different than the originals, the threads stop around mid bolt and there are groves cut from where the threads stop up for around 3/8" (not threads just groves). The bolts are a little longer than the OEM and the head of the bolts are a little taller. They have the retaining sleeve but the sleeves are a little shorter than the OEM's also.
I've tried searching on the net to see if I could find a web site that had specific info on the rod bolts but just cannot find anything specific to the engine.
Its a 2002 6.0L from a Silverado 2500, iron block with aluminum heads.
Appreciate any info anyone may have to shed some light on this issue,
Neal

I haven't tightened them, was doing some research before hand, they do appear that they will work fine from the measurements I've taken.
The bolts are a little longer than the old bolts (old 1.98", new 2.05") but the threads look to be correct for clamping. The other thing that is odd is the sleeve that is on the bolt to hold the bolt in place if it comes loose is smaller in diameter than the one on the original bolts. It does not fit snug in the rod cap as the original one did,

This is what I remember reading, not sure if this helps, Since your bolts have the the sleeve.

Thanks for the input,
I still cannot find anything that gives positive identification for the rod bolts for each model year specifically for the 2000 6.0L truck engine.
In my first post I put it was a 2002 6.0L but after looking up the date code on the block its a 2000 6.0L engine.
I'm going to try the dealership and see if I can find someone with a little knowledge about the rod bolts or a parts person that can spend a little time looking this up.
I don't like the fact that the new bolts I have don't fit correctly,
The only info I can find about the bolts is the change from 1st design to 2nd design, the bolts that are in the engine don't match either. They have 3 dimples on the head of the bolt while the identifier for the 2 designs is either 1 dimple or 2 dimples.
I don't have the VIN of the truck it was pulled from so thats out for trying to identify it. I do have the stamped number on the block (not the casting number) but have not been able to find anything that helps me decipher this number.

after a couple hours on the net and based on a few pics of the different bolts it looks as if I have the 12568069 bolts (based on the markings on the head of the bolt). I've been able to located some so I may try and order a couple and see what I end up with.
I have 2 of the 11610158 bolts which appear to work but the sleeve on the bolt is loose in the rod cap bore. I'ed rather the sleeve perform as designed so I think I'll try and get the same bolts I took out.
Brick, I came across a post here that indicated the 11610158 bolt was used in the 143 rod, I found a site that indicated the rod part number for this truck was 12568734. I'm not sure what the "143" designator is as its not part of the part number that I have so if possible can you post the part number for the rod also?
Thanks for everyones help
