i am interested in installing ls1 heads on a 5.3 and was wondering what the compression ratio would be? how much would i have to mill them down?

 

Hey I'm not a mechanic or anything, but someone told me that the LS1 heads only fit the 6.0 because of the larger combustion chambers, but the LS6 heads from a Corvette ZO6 will bolt on. Hope that helps.

Sorry homie - any LS1 type heads will bolt on just fine. 1999+ LS1 heads will have the center bolts you need to fit a trucks valve cover. Pre 99 LS1 heads have valve cover bolts along the edges - dont buy them. Combustion chamber is around 68cc for the LS1, and ~59 for the 5.3 heads I think. Compression should drop to near 9:1 from 9.5:1. I don't know the exact nubmers. The LS1 and 6.0 heads will have larger valves.

I think you would need to have them milled at least .030 to get compression back up.

BTW- I bought a low mile set last week for $225 complete in DFW.
