Default Comp Cam questions

I am seriously condsidering buying a comp cam 212/218 .522/.529 114 LSA. I would appreciate any comments on it. The pros and cons. What happened to gas milage? What does it idle like, does it need idle adjustment? When does the power come on? Where is the power band? Where is the top end of it? Is it a noticeable increase in power over the stock cam? Any problem with install? what does it sound like? Also how does this compare to the high lift version of this cam? Thanks for any comments

That cam is a winner on this board. I think it starts at around 1700-5600 or something close like that. Good for torque and good gains throughout the power band. tuning is minimal but will require a little. Youwill need the 918 springs for this cam. I can't decide on wether to spend the money on a cam or just wait until I blow up my engine or get rich to install a 408 or maybe a 6.0 and then install a cam why it's out. but over all this is a good mild cam for your truck.

It was nice in my 4.8--had a few idle issues, but I'm sure the few extra cubes in the 5.3 will help that.

I gained 31rwhp with this cam. Stock heads and exhaust manifolds. I think I had a CAI, efans, t-stat, and HPPIII tuning at the time. Best times in sig.

If you decide to run this cam you can use the Z06 valve springs, which are a bit cheaper then the 918's. I think the 918's are overkill for a cam under .550 lift. I chose the high lift version of that cam (212/218-558/563) for my 6.0L, as it seemed to be the favorite around here....at least in 6.0's. I would think that if you went with a Z06 cam and springs in a 5.3, you really wouldn't be leaving much more then about 5hp on the table compared to the comp you were talking about....and you can usually find a Z06 cam and springs for $150-$200...which is less then half of what the comp will cost you. Just my .02.

Im running that cam and Im very happy with it. Id be even happier if I had a good tune! Still waiting on that. In my opinion you cant go wrong with that cam. Im still running my stock tune right now, on a 2002 PCM actually. My 99 PCM is going back in tomorrow and its being updated.

Im not sure on the ETB. But I know people hav had problems after they toyed with the throttle cracker. Nelson can tune for the cam, and he can do it quite well. It is hard to learn what to change and what not to in Edit. It can get very very confusing! That kind of tuning is best left to a tuner or an experienced Edit user.
