Default cold air induction questions

anyone ever do it? is there a kit? what about that hood they have, does it work?

here is the deal, i was racing last saturday and recorded a couple of logs, the outside temps were below 40deg, my IAT sensor was showing about 70deg at idle and climbed to close to 90deg at the end of a run(100mph). how can this be? the stock set up pulls air from the fender, the air coming thru the radiator must be presurising the engine compartment enuff to force warm air into the fender area meaning the engine is geting hot air.

if this is true and i can fix it, seems like alot of performance to be had especialy being blown and always fighting heat. my truck is running so good now that it is cold i want to be able to maintain as much of this as i can when it warms back up.

is it posiable the sensor is just wrong or is the air really that hot?

So you still have the stock air box? I took the whole air box off and just replaced it with an open K&N. I immediatly felt a difference, especially above 50mph. It also seamed to give me about .5 more psi. It was like that way all summer in 100 degree heat with no problems.

I know L-eater did a custom intake for his, I hosted the pics for him a while back. I will find the link and post them.

You can do what I did, make a ram-air set up using the stock air box. I cut a round 4" hole in the bottom of the air box and mounting plate below it. Ran some 4" black flex hose (looks like the metal dryer hose but it's black nylon) that I got from Pep Boys down to the bumper. I hooked up a scoop in the hole next to the passenger side fog light and connected the flex hose to it. It works great and worked better than the K&N FIPK intake I was using at the time. The air box is nice and cool to the touch, the intake tube does get warmer as it gets closer the the engine but that can't be helped. I also did the TB coolant bypass which also help some, the combination of the two was a good mod. I use to have pics but the FSC forum member who had them on his pic site doesn't have the site any more.

How's about taping a thermometer in your air box?

i did a log on my sensor this morning, it started about 25 above outside temps because i was parked inside, right after i started it and pulled outside it droped to about 10 above outside temp and stayed there till i got to work, about 10 miutes. it looks like my sensor is ok to me, i think the air that is geting into that box is really 40-50deg above outside temps once the truck gets warmed up. i need to fix that.

i looked at somones pic's where he did the black tube into the bottom of the stock box, that is one idea. hey kent, those pic's suck, what is going on there? i like the pic from the top where you just see the tube go down but where is the air filter?

thanks for everyones help here, i would relly like to come up with something good where nothing but outside air gets in and the ducting is way oversized and smooth. any more pic's or ideas here would be great. i think i am going to get a ported throttle body while i am at it.
