Default check out this "4.8L" cam i found....

a while back i asked what a good cam grind would be for a 4.8L, cant remember the exact results but i was looking at cams at thunder racing and came across this one...

"Comp Cams LS1 Camshaft - 206 / 212 .515 / .522 112 LSA 800-5800 RPM Power Band. Excellent low-end power. Mild Camshaft great for automatic cars with the stock or mild aftermarket torque converter and daily drivers. Works well with Crane 1.8 Roller Rockers."

was REAL close to the grind talked about, but that lsa is pretty low, so im wondering how that would affect idle, but... im sure that could be changed with a little "editing" . and with how low the lift is you could just use the ls6 springs instead of spending the extra money on others and use the stock retainers

you think this thing would actually make power?

just incase any of you guys with 4.8s might want cams and not custom ones

Thanks for the info on the cam. I've been thinking about camming my truck but the motor is completely stock, do i need to do anything else before I cam it or what?

Nope. Long tube headers and an air intake would help with gains though.

That is the cam I am looking at for my 4.8, since I don't want to swap in a torque converter.

I've actually been considering going with this same cam in my 07 4.8. I don't know how it would work with the stock torque converter, I'm know it would benefit with a bit larger one, but not sure I really want to tackle that for a while.

I have that cam on a 114 lsa in my 5.3...no converter needed, smooth idle, great daily driver. That cam along with a tuned 02 PCM dropped my 1/4 mile times almost a whole second and gained 9 mph (same bolt ons before and after, running 33" AT tires at the time...16.5@81.7mph to 15.6@89.5mph).

Definitely get some hardened pushrods though...

sounds like a nice cam for a 4.8, I would keep it on a 112lsa though, and since you are buying it new, I would just custom grind it with a bigger lift, like in a .550 on each end, and still be able to use the ls6 springs...
