Default Cheapest way to build a 408?

Looking to start a build for my 2007 Chevy avalanche. My question is what is the most cost affective way of building a 408 that would be able to handle 800rwhp +. Should I get a short block from tsp or start in a different direction. Also will my stock 5.3 heads work on a 6.0?

Thanks in advance.

Find an lq4 block, and get a 408 rotating assembly from tsp for 1600. Yeah your heads will work for a 6.0, It'll have killer compression and you won't be able to run real high lift cams. Theyll choke the 408 in stock form I'm sure, if they can even work for a 408

No real "cheap" way. The machine work is still high $. Good luck buddy.

Get a junk yard 6.0 with less than 100k, buy a kb racing turbo kit and be done with it. Screw building a 408.

I wouldnt use cheap and 408 in the same sentence...if you go in with that attitude you will end up spending more because of replacing shortcuts.

There isn't one.
Turbo the 5.3

You could do a 370 which is the same bore as a 408 but not stroked. 5.3 heads aren't made for a 4" bore so you'll need 6.0 heads.

Can I stroke my 5.3 to a 370 or is that using a 6.0L block? Also I'm looking at a Ly6 6.0 and I'm wondering which 6.0 can handle more power the older or newer 6.0s?

Turbo 5.3 or turbo 6.0 > 408
