Cool Change of plans

Well, since my pops won't allow me to get a 6.0 liter even though I have plenty of money, I've decided to go a different route. I guess I'll just have to deal with my 4.8 and turn it into a freak Ain't nothin wrong with that. Modding a 4.8 is like taking the long way out...if you're successful (fast) you deserve a helluva lot of respect...so that's one upside I like to remind myself of lol

For Feburary I plan on getting a Yank TT3000 and a 212/218 .522 /.529 114 LSA comp cam with some sort of tune. Would any of you cam experts reccomend a different cam? I was considering a Z06 cam but really want the sound and the high end rip of a bigger cam in the 4.8, if I'm going to go through doing the cam swap. I plan to spin it to 6500 or higher if safe. What springs should I throw in with the cam, and will the hardened 7.400" pushrods work with this cam? I hope that these mods will get me to about low or mid 14's. Then I'll go from there... Thanks for any help bros.

since your plannin on revin pretty high, maybe you should think about Comps 212/218 high lift, on a 115LSA.

You could have that 4.8 block bored out to 3.905, use a 4" stroke and have a 383 stroker. Basically adding 90+ cubic inches. I'd have no problems running that 4.8 in my truck.

I like your guys ideas .

Sportside: That sounds like a nice option. That cam would probably need at least a 3200 stall with the 4.8. Would a cam like that be a custom grind?

BigTex: Now you got me thinkin How do the oversquare motors run? What's the reason why the 4.8 and 5.3 block can't be bored anymore than 3.905 safely since I thought they are identical to the 6.0 block? That's one subject I would like enlightment on

200Blue5.7: As you would guess I'd love to get a LS1, LS6, or 6.0 liter in my truck, but my dad seems to think different. I think since this is my last year of High School he wants me to save my money so I can spend it on something more reasonable...but you know how we are :

LTNKLR01: Cam is on it's way very shortly. As far as bigger mods, I'd like to get heads and a 100 or 150 shot by May or June. Those would probably get me in the low 12's. I doubht a SC will ever happen, but my plans for that could change . I wonder how your truck would run with a good shot of luaghing gas. You could easily be number 1 on the list I'd bet. Imagine how many 4.8 suxs guys you'd shut up C'mon bro...just do it!

personally I"m thinking about keeping my 4.8 under the hood and seeing how fast I can get it. I'm not shooting for 11s or anything, but I'd be happy with a very low 13 / high 12 e.t. I may get flamed for this, but I'm kinda tired about hearing everyone suggest a 5.7 or 6.0 swap. Yes I know they make more power and are monsters with mods, but its almost like everyone rules out anything to do with a 4.8 / its a V8 is it not?

I would love to see someone get into the 13's N/A with a 4.8L.

Well then...I set out to shatter the 13 second barrier. Cam, heads, 3.90's/posi, 3200 or higher TC, ASM's, LSX intake, e-fans, pulleys, tune, slicks, remove weight, built trans, lightweight driveshaft, and a few other things I can't think of off the top of my head...that's my list to add to what I already got. That should put me toward the low 13's N/A. Maybe break into the 12's if i'm real lucky with my truck, since it's pretty stripped. There have been 5.3's in N/A form that have run very low 12's. That's my goal by the end of the year.

About the engine swap, I think most people rule out the 4.8 and even 5.3's these days because it is so cheap to do a motor swap. I was looking at a brand new 6.0 LQ4 on ebay with intake and tb that went for just $1600. When you consider you can sell your previous engine for some amount, the swap ends up being really cheap. It's probably the best bang for the buck for most people. I personally find it lame though when people slap around the 4.8 just because it's the smallest V-8 in the family. The 4.8 engine still has great pontentional in a light truck and people just need to overlook the .5 liter that it lacks from the 5.3 and stop having pissy fits. IMO, there are so few people that are going extreme with their 4.8's which creates a deception in peoples eyes. People like LTNKLR01 need to be looked at as an example that 4.8's do have potential and it's just the lack of really modded 4.8's that doesn't bring it respect. LTNKLR01's radix truck is up there with the best of them and he still has some left...like gears/posi (if i remember correctly) and nitrous. I think it's time for us 4.8 guys to step it up in throw these 4.8 doubhters **** back in their faces Don't take it seriously guys just trying to fire up the troops lol
