Default change oil light questions

Today I go to start the truck and the check oil light comes on. It stays lit for 10 seconds then turned off. It did it everytime I started the car today. I had the oil changed less than 1000 miles ago. I checked the oil on the dip stick and it looked fine. The last time the light did come on, I thought it stayed on until you reset it??? Any explinations??? Should I get another oil change???

Mine has done that everytime that I start the truck, stays on for about 5 to 7 seconds. According to my manual it is supposed too. Is your's different? I got a 2003, and it does not have the little info panel on the left of the guages like the earlier trucks. So I mean does yours actually say check oil, or is it a dummy light?

turn your key till its just to "part ignition" where the battery shows... then stomp the throttle 3 times in a row, then turn it on..

i think thats what it is.

The oil light is just a reminder to change it according to mileage I believe. So you gotta reset it once you change it.

The light does not stay on untill you reset it. The instructions for reseting the light are in the owners manual.
1. Turn ingnition to "run" w/o starting the truck.
2. Press the acc 5 times to the floor in 3 seconds.
3. The code will flash 3 times and go off.
4. Turn the truck off.
5. Start the truck and have a nice day.

It works off a formula based on engine hours and various sensor readings.
