Default Catch Can for PVC Valve. How long will it take intake to Dry out?

Hi guys!

I have installed a catch can inline with PVC Valve how long will it take for the oil in the intake to dry out so my truck will stop smoking.

Thanks Lee!

Reducing the flow through the pcv valve will cause an engine to smoke. Take your device off that line and it should clear up. Could this fella be our new hiho???

This guy is for real. Lee I have heard that a "catch can" will work better than a fuel filter because the filter is restrictive and you always have to change it. The can has no restriction and you can just dump the oil back into your engine when it gets full.

Now on the subject, Lee has been having this for a while. Lee, did you take it back to the dealer? Are they still not willing to help?

I have taken it the the dealer last Thursday Oct 2, 2002. The Dealers word's "Your truck doesn't use enough oil to allow us to fix it. It meets the guidelines that GM has set fourth on oil consumption. So we cannot help you at this time. Sorry have a nice day". This just P****d me off good.

So if I can't find the actual problem and fix it no hope.

I have intalled a air compressor filter that filter out water inline with the PVC Valve. I have catched about 1/4 oz of oil.

Since this has been going into my intake since I bought the truck how long would it take for the oil to leave out of the intake for the truck to stop smoking when you blip the throttle. It has to idle 3 min or so for you to see it puff blue whitish smoke out the tailpipe.

I am SO aggrevated! I have owned 4 GM vehicles liked them all but this one and I don't know why it is so hard for them to fix my truck.

I don't want a new one. I just want this one fix so it won't embarrasse me in public.

Thanks for leting me vent!!!!!!

I am truly sorry to bother you guys but I just don't know what to do and I am very upset.

You would fit in around here. The hot redneck truck is a Cummins Turbo diesel with loud pipes and the more black smoke they shoot out the "cooler" they are Why do you think your truck sucks oil at idle, I thought they only sucked oil at high RPMs???

Well it sucks oil at all Rpms. Not just Idle. I talked to a mechanic at my local dealership and he Said" I took the intake off a truck of a guys like yours. I turned the intake of his truck upside down and about of oil poured out of it. So I wonder if there is somewhere in the intake that that much oil could puddle and just slowly be sucked into the head of the engine.

If this be the case it would be a month before my truck would stop smoking.

Can any of you give some light on if the intake could hold oil like this or not? I have asked the question many times but I seem to be ignored and Why I don't know.

It isn't that I am downing GM. I like my truck but I am very disappointed that it is brand new and smokes and the fact that GM don't want to help me. But I am not trying to down GM. BECAUSE I LIKE GM PRODUCTS!

Oh man, I can't believe the dealership still hasn't helped you on this. I remember seeing some pics of your truck smoking on another site (im pretty sure it was your truck) That is terrible they won't fix it with that big of a problem.

Maxmumboom has a pretty enticing idea, drastic but enticing.

When I was doing some work on my throttle body (i took it off the intake manifold) i could see a little oil build up in the intake. I got a clean lint free shop towel and wrapped it onto a bar and cleaned the intake as well as i could. You can't however actually get to the runners. There is a small hole in the very back after the main throttle body intake opening that the rest of the intake air must go through. If oil is down by the runners, i would think it would be sucked through pretty quickly with highway RPM's. At least try cleaning the opening after the throttle body- it is the only place that i could think of oil puddling in. Everything else runs downwrd to the cylenders. Good Luck

Take all the mods off your truck, and blow your motor. Then have it towed there and get a new one. F_CK EM. If they wont help you on your own accord. Make em do it under warranty.(or maybe even get yourself a Caddy 6.0.)

This has been a problem for Gen II Lightnings too. There has been much discussion on what causes it(most think the PCV valve is 'failing' and the s/c is pressurizing the crankcase--forcing eng. oil past the PCV and up into the intake adaptor) and how to 'fix' it. Of course, you have a different eng. setup(no forced induction) and what we've tried might not be applicable but here's one of our fixes: replace your oil filler cap with a push-in or twist-in(same threads as the cap) oil breather filter. This relieves any crankcase pressure BUT it will also LEAN out the eng's a/f ratio---you might get detonation!!! Most of the L owners use a chip and it can be programmed to account for the lean condition---I d/k about your setup. Btw, a lot of them are using the same type of filter in the PCV line too.

I removed the line from my PCV valve, attached a vacuum hose(3 feet or so) to it and placed the other end of the hose into a can of Sea Foam Cleaner(but any solvent should work), start the eng, and let the vacuum suck the cleaner/solvent into the intake. This should clean out your intake runners, etc. The eng. won't want to idle as you've created a big vacuum leak and once it starts, it will idle 'rough'. Keep blipping the throttle to keep it running(two guys are better than one for this but I was able to do it alone) until the can is empty--intake oil should be gone .
