And it all comes down to what you want to put into it. I'm no engineer but every bend and turn and bump in the pipe subtly changes how the engine runs. That's why the high dollar systems are so high dollar; engineers, dynos, test tracks,...it's the R&D. Just cutting a muffler off isn't always better like the old days
Are the wrinkle bent pipes bad?

Wrinkle bends slow the exhaust down, cause the exhaust to tumble..... The extra bendsand pipe arent gonna make as much of a difference untilyou start taking about seriously modified engine etc, you can go either way..... Easiest is higher flowing muffler!!!

Yeah it's been my experience that dual exhaust does nothing for perfomance. And maybe just me but I immediately think of Bubbas corner muffler shop and trailer parks. I don't even like the factory ones on newer Rams.

It seems like all of the data is coming from the manufacturers or the rags that are being paid to promote their products. If anyone knows of any tech data on increases from duals or cat back systems, please post a link.

Most of the cat back systems whether dual or single will see an advantage over a stock exhaust system simply due to the higher flowing or free flowing muffler, duals or single is preference, unless youre gonna run a true dual setup, difference is negligible, especially on a stock truck..... Dont know of or havent seen a dyno of anything stock vs single/dual aftermarket cat back on stock truck, much less anything else that didnt have a manufacturers logo attached to it....
