Default Which cam would you take for this app(asking for a friend)

He wants to run either a 222/224 .562 .568 112lsa or a 224/228 550 550(think thats the lift) on a 112. It is in an rcsb 4wd. He has a 2500 stall and full bolt ons and a tune. I told him to run the 222 cam thats what i had in my heavy *** truck and it ran good but was too much down lown for mine since my truck is 5600#s where his is a little under 5K. The 224 IMO is way too big and will have shitty DD characteristics. This a DD but he doesnt drive it a whole lot. He will spray it occasionally and he is going to put a set of heads on it too. Cam experts what do you think. I tolld him he needs to go with a 3K stall too but he was told to retard the cam 2-4*s to help with this problem. So.........

Id decide what I was gonna do for heads before I chose a cam. You should match a cam to the head flow. 224/228 might be too much in a bit truck like his. 3000 would be the smallest I would go on that cam. On the timing deal, you would want to advance it some not retard it. Some cams come with 2-4* advance ground in from say Comp if you want it that way.

The recommendation I got from Cammotion for my 5.3 with heads that flow well to .600 was this:

224/228, .57X/.56X, 112. This was in a 2wd RCSB with 3000 stall and 4.10s.

I don't think I'd even run that in a 2wd. Maybe something in a 220/224. I'd go even smaller on a 4wd with 2500 stall.

Well Kyle what would you go with then since ur the resident cam expert

Tdrumm thanks yeah Im thinking that too. He is so set on that cam but I think the 222 cam would work well with a higher stall I dont think the 2500 is enough but supposedly by degreeing the cam it will give alot of the bottom end back but I dont see how. We will see. The TR220 cam is a nice one too I think a cam grind like that on a 114lsa would work well with his setup but I like a higher stall to get in the meat of the powerband just that much faster.
