Default Cam/Transmission questions

I have a few questions about cam preferences and such in these truck motors and in my 6.0L.

1. I have talked with a friend and he said the biggest change I should upgrade to would be an 02 Z06 cam. Can you put a very agressive cam in these motors and get away with it? I know you have to change springs, etc. Do you guys go ahead and upgrade the oil pump like the ls1 Fbody guys do?

2. With my truck being AWD, it came with the 4L65 tranny from GM with the Dana 60/4.10 gears. Are all these components strong enough to hold extra power and such?

I was just wondering what kind of setups you guys are running, and keeping a reliable everyday driver truck at the same time. I would like to get some extra power via cam, etc and hold off on a blower for now because thats some serious $$ right there. Any input will be appreciated. Thanks!!

Ask Tiburon about his cam, it's a great street cam. The Z06 cam just isn't too good of a choice...you need too much crap for too high RPM power gains.

If you really do have a Dana 60 (I didn't think they came w/ these trucks) then that thing is pretty much indestructable (sp?) and will be fine.

Thanks for the reply man.

Yea it came equipped with the Dana 60. The sierra denali/chevy silverado all wheel steer trucks are equipped with the real Dana 60 rear end.

Yeah AKZ71 and I were discussing the G86 LSD in that rear axle, that's badass that Dana axle is in there. It's a beast.

I still like a 214/220 .520/.540 114LSA cam. Good idle, very slight chop. Would pull hard to redline and still have a low end power too. It will require new springs and may as well upgrade pushrods too

Is that cam setup available from thunder racing? Is it a thunder racing cam or a comp cam?

It'd be a custom one with those specs. I believe Comp has a 212/218 ~.520/.530 114LSA...that'd be my next choice for an over the counter cam.

The tranny should hold up fine as well. It was built for the ls6-405hp Corvette I believe and has upgrades like induction hardened turbine input shafts, larger intermediate servo, and an additional three-four clutch plate.

Oh yeah, the 4L65E is a FAR better stock trans that the 4L60E. The 3-4 clutches are also a newer material from what I read too.
