Default Cam Or Torque Converter

Im in a bind, I dont know whether to buy a mild cam that doesnt require a torque converter, or just buy a TCI 3000 converter. Which will give best gains, and the way i figure it know i can run the converter and then this coming summer get a steeper cam, Any suggestiong?????

If you don't tow anything, get the coverter now and go big on the cam in the future. Those are my plans.

Get the converter first. Any cam in a 5.3 is going to need a higher than stock stall.

awesome, Yeah everyone has there stories about Yank, TCI , and just about every other company that makes them, there bad stories and their good stories, I think its all related to how the converter is installed.

Does anyone have any gain numbers in the 1/4 mile with just the converter ( by that i mean the converter adding power to the truck with other mods, but bfore the converter and after the converter) The website says .5-.7 of a sec, but thats all hearsay, K and N says up to 45hp so i need some real numbers....

I put a TCI in my truck along with some 4.10 gears and shift kit and knocked off a solid .8 with traction lacking to say the least. Definitely go for the converter first. Oh and one thing TCI forgets to mention is that one of the flywheel bolt holes on our trucks is smaller than the rest. I used a dremel tool to enlarge mine enough to where the TCI supplied bolts fit. Very minor grinding.

You can install yourself too, if your not scared to drop the tranny. Itsa not hard, just buy a Haynes manual and follow the steps.

The TCI SF3000 does not really feel any different when cruising except you can really feel it lock up.

If you have other questions, PM me.

I went 14.98 with exhaust, AEM air intake, and Hypertech. I added the Yank TT3000 and went 14.57. That's a good solid 4 tenths. Most people told me I would drop a half of a second and I doubted it, but I'm sure that wasn't my best run either, as the truck did spin a little off the line. I know people are looking at the TCI for cost reasons, and I know that Yank's customer service has been "questionable" at times to say the least, but I would get another Yank in a second. It really doesn't even feel like its in there anymore. Drivability and towing haven't been jeopardized in the least, and it really wakes the truck up.
