cam timing - 1 tooth = how many degrees?

I think this might be your problem. The open and closed side of a lobe can have different ramp rates.

I assume you have covered the basics like only turning it over in a clockwise direction while looking at the crank. The chain isn't designed for a tensioner, and you are not running one, or vice versa?

If it is still off, you might be able to get an offset keyway for your oil pump/cam gear, or even get an offset keyway cut in the gear.

Just a couple thoughts.

yes, it was turned clockwise when measuring at .050. even if the chain was designed for a tensioner and i removed it (or vice versa), 6* off is huge. not something a tensioner would be able to dramatically change (in a LS motor anyways).

I'm not even sure if the chain is different, just throwing it out there. Yeah 6* is pretty big. Hopefully it is the cam, that would be the best fix.

just got off of the phone with john from howards. he told me that they measured it out and i was absolutely right. he apologised and said it should have been caught in QC and said they will have me a fresh cut out by Friday. gotta love good customer service.

i have never measured my cams in the past. just went dot to dot and ran with it. i will be checking for now on.
