Default Cam thoughts

Hey guys,

In the midst of swapping out my AFM cam with this one 218/226 .604/.604 115 lsa +2 advance (Custom spec'd). How do you think this would sound? What about power gains? I'm also installing a set of PRC stage 1 ls6 heads, DOD and VVT delete, 8 rib conversion setup, 10% overdriven crank pulley, and methanol. Will keep you posted once its all done in a day or two.

It's going to be night and day faster... heads, cam, meth, and pulley swaps.

Depending on your boost level before these mods you can add damn near 200 HP with these mods. For example if you were running 8# on a stock 5.3, and then bump it to over 12# with heads, cam, and meth.

Add a converter at the same time and it will literally feel like twice the power and half the weight of your old set up.

I'm currently running around 9.5 psi. Starting tomorrow I'll be running from 18 - 20 psi with the 2.875 pulley. I also have a 2.750 pulley which I'll be using if needed as well as 3.000. Will be using the 2.875 mostly though.

If you are getting heads get Stage 2. And yes..with your list look for about 200hp more.

That looks like a pat g cam to me... did he know your plans? If it were mine and I knew I was gonna push the blower that hard I woulda went a little more extreme on the cam. A little more overlap, and probably a little more exhaust bias to open that exhaust valve sooner! This cam will work just fine... But every thing else seems to be 'max effort' so I'm just tossing in my 2 cents.

Thanks for your input guys. I was going for the stage 2.5 heads first but was told by TSP that the stage 1's are more suitable for my engine's bore size. On top of that, the flow number difference is not worth the extra $400 or so plus tax in my opinion. Also, my tuner got this custom cam for me. It could well be a Pat G cam, I'm not sure. However, everything is up and running now thankfully. I'm getting it tuned tonight. Man it's amazing how it sounds with the 2.875 pulley lol. I haven't pushed it yet since it's untuned and running richer than donald trump when the meth kicks in. First things first, we're gonna start with the 3.000 pulley and see how that goes first. Ill keep you posted!

Just an update. We faced some fueling problems last night during tuning. The injectors that came with the Whipple were maxed out at 4400 and above with duty cycles of 104 and up!! That shouldn't be a problem today since I am installing Injector Dynamics 850cc and then have it tuned tonight also. Hopefully everything goes well! Fingers crossed.
