Default Cam thoughts?

A guy I work with wants to cam his 99 2wd 4.8 and I was wondering what good drivability cams you guys might have or had and he is keeping the stock trans converter. All the performance shops just seem to want to sell him whatever cam they have on the shelf at the moment.
Thanks
Ryan

4.8 and keeping the stock torque converter, i would go with something small for torque.
look into the xfi261
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1097&sb=2
or the xr259
http://www.compcams.com/Cam_Specs/Ca...csid=1084&sb=2
or if he was wanting a little bigger, the xr265

i plan on camming my 4.8 with a stock or maybe mild stall with a thunder racing 220 cam
i hear a lower lobe seperation give you better low end so less need for a stall. i'll be going with a 112lsa. the price is 384.99 or the whole kit(cam, rods, and springs) for 599.99

Since it's a 99 he'll probably want to upgrade to 00+ injectors and an 02 PCM operating system (the 99 injectors are smaller and PCM's are junk). The cam in my sig is a great daily driver in my 5.3 and doesn't need a converter...

I'd put a converter in a truck before a cam IMO......oh wait; that's what I did

Any cam in a 4.8 would be better with a different converter; including the stock cam.
