Cam Question?
alright im trying to pick a cam between a XR265HR-14 and XR265HR-15
which one would make more power? I want the motor to be very lopey sounding.
XR265HR-14
RPM Range: 1200-6000
Duration: 265 deg. Intake / 271 deg. Exhaust
Duration at .050": 212 deg. Intake / 218 deg. Exhaust
Valve Lift: .522" Intake / .529" Exhaust
Lobe Separation: 114 deg.
XR265HR-15
•RPM Range: 1400-6700
•Advertised Duration (IN/EX): .265" / .271"
•Duration @ .050" (IN/EX): .212" / .218"
•Valve Lift w/1.7 Ratio Roller Rockers (IN/EX): .558" / .563"
•LSA: 115°
I was gonna go ahead and buy the 15 but I wanted to know which would sound and run better in a brand new rebuilt 5.3l

Neither will have much lope at all. The 114 LSA cam might have a tiny bit more. If you want more lope, get the HT1 SDPC LSX Truck Cam (214/218 .559/.562 111).

So how would I go about getting a cam with 212/218 with 112 LSA? they don't sell them from Comp, would I buy the XR265HR-15 and take it to a machine shop or somethin? I found a kit with that cam, springs, timing gears and chain, and lifters $1100 so if I got it could I just get that cam worked on in a machine shop and still be able to use the rest of the parts the kit comes with?

To change the LSA they have to remove a lot of material and that will effectively make it a much smaller cam.
Also not just any machine shop can grind a cam. You need a cam grinding machine to do this and some one with alot of experience grinding cams.
Have you checked with any of our sponsors to see what they have to offer as far as packages???
