Default Cam install question!

Hey guess! Quick question about doing a cam install!

My buddy and I are doing a cam install on his 06 4.8 Silverado and my only question is where do you get the lifter bars for lifting the lifters up into the cups and slide the cam out without them falling? And do I have to punch anything out do get something in there? He only has 30k on it so we aren't pulling heads just valve springs and pushrods and cam. Any place I can buy some or make my own?

Thanks!

Lifter bars?

Just spin the cam with your hands after you spin 2 water pumps bolts in it. That will push the lifters up into the lifter trays, then stick two wooden dowel rods into the holes inside the timing cover to prevent the lifters from falling down. They need to be like 22in or something close to that.

Do you know what size rods? I've only known them as that, metal rods that hold the lifter in place. Can you buy them anywhere or make them?

Look up Kraftworks in Delray Beach, FL. I know he was selling what you were talking about. Metal rod tools that held up lifters.

Wooden dowel rods, 5/16" diameter cut down to 22in. One on each side.

This, should have them at Home Depot or Lowes.

I always use pen magnets but there are multiple ways to skin a cat so to speak.
