Cam Install

Default Cam Install

Any body heren ever do a cam install in a 00 4.8L silverado. I need to know what all i need to remove to get the cam to fit out/in with the engine still in the truck, and if you got them handy all the torqe specs for reinstalling everything, also if the stock head bolt are torqued to yeild not reuseable.

take a look at this site, hope that it will help you a little. The car installation is almost the same as the car. (kinda) but it still should help you out. I am kinda of in a hurry.

Remove Crank Pulley,water Pump Radiator,rockers Arms Just Need To Be Loosen To Remove The Push Rods Then Remove Timeing Cover And Cam Cover Rotate Cam A Few Times To Push Lifters Up Have New Cam Lube And Ready Remove Old Cam And Slide In The New One

radiator and fans have to come out... after you get the other parts listed above off its pretty simple..

just dont rush and make sure you put everything back together right.. you would be surprised how many forget to clamp down the water pump hoses and etc LOL

just make sure you take your time everything can be done in a day with a cam install. i just did mine along with a s/c and tranny upgrade and did everything in a few days, and that i with taking my time and only working on it for about 5-7hrs a day

I did mine over the course of a weekend, taking my time a few hours each day. I'd suggest using some pen magnets or something like the JPR tool to hold the lifters up. If one of those lifters falls, you're pulling a cylinder head off...kinda like playing Russian Roulete IMO.

Exactly how i did it, and it only takes 3 hours. Cam installs on these trucks is more like a bolt on than an internal mod.

If i remember right all you need tool wise is a pully puller, a 10mm and a 12mm. Thats about it.

Mine had 62000 miles on it when i did the swap, and i did another at 64000. I never changed a gasket and its never leaked. They are all O-rings, so they can be reused.

I still havent even gotten around to changing my springs yet. LOL
