Default Cam experts, i need some help

Has anyone got the 208/216 crane cam. I've read about everyone saying its a good replacement cam. Would I need anything with the cam like headers or tuning? I'm really thinking about getting this cam. I think it would be a good replacement for the 99' cam. Crane cams says 30-40hp gain. I wonder how much torque I would gain? Any ideas?

jlwz71 and I have that same cam in our '99 5.3 liters. It is a good cam throughout the entire rpm range. I noticed more torque and horsepower within the entire band. I never dynoed, but seat-o-meter I didn't really notice a loss in down low torque <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
I don't have any tuning, and it doesn't need any to run well. Although tuning would greatly help because it wants to pull hard in the upper rpms- past the 5200rpm shift. Headers are my next mod with tuning very quickly behind that.
Just a note, if you do this cam get 2002 LS6 valvesprings. I went with comp918s and they are a little overkill for the .500 lift on that cam. (I saw they also have that cam spec with a .530/.530 lift on it, but 2002 LS6 springs would be fine there too)

The swap is straight-foward. You might get thoughts by looking at my signature below from my cam swap. (sorry the pics are so dark I was working on it at night after work)

ryan23 i looked through your pics of the cam install and im guessing you ran out of film or something b/c i didnt see the intake off or them lifters out of the hole in your pics. Anyway, did you do the install your self and how hard was it. i am a diesel mechanic but i work on 18 wheelers so im not used to anyything small.

Don't need to take the intake off or the lifters out. He used magnets to hold them in, but they aren't necessary, just good insurance.
