I want to spen some money on my 4.8
I have a 2000 4.8. I am looking to spend around $700 on the motor either bolt on or cam. Currently, I have Hypertech Programmer, 160* Thermastat, K & N in the box filter.
Best time what 15.25 @ 89.89 mph. And that was on stock tires with 3.42 gears.
I am not looking for NOS. Bottles are to easy. I want to run mid 14's or better with the money i am willing to spend. Help me out.

Not to sound like an a$$ but save about $500 to $600 more and buy a 5.3L or 6.0L and drop it in. All your current mods will still work with either of those engines. My $.02
Otherwise, go with the gears 4.10's preferably.

with 700 i'd get the little things u dont got yet, plus some 4.10 or 3.73s. first off, de-screen your mass air sensor, or buy the grenatelli if u dont feel conforable with it. then get some headers, it'll give u power and really open up ur exaust, it will sound great. then get an intake if u want, go with the UPD. people seem to see the biggest gain from it. if u dont got the money right away, the gears can wait. plus count on ur gas milage goin down with that. whatever u do, dont listen to 01sportside telling u to drop in a 5.3, that would take a little more than 700 bucks anyway . it looks like ur runnin a pretti good time with a 4.8. just keep modding the hell out of it and no one will touch ya
btw, i just burnt my buddies 5.3 extcab last nite, we got all the same mods

Dope is the quickest way to add cheap short term speed, but if you want reliability and you've only got $700 spend carefully. Cold air induction, ASP pulley, shorty headers (long tubes will wipe out the whole $700 by themselves),cat back exhaust. Gibson makes stainless items which have a lifetime warranty even against rust, but they cost more of course. Then you can do all the free mods like TB Bump Stop, TB Bypass and MAF Descreen. I'd go with the pulley and cold air to start. After that you will have a few dollars left over for the exhaust, but not quite enough for the stainless items which is the way to go because they last so long. If you don't buy stainless you'll just have to replace them later on anyway. Then you'll wish you bought the stainless in the first place because it will cost you more money to replace the rusted out items and you have to do the install job all over again and that's no fun.

Contrary to popular belief, your gas milage won't suffer near what you may think with a gear change. I went from an open 342 to an Aburn/373 combo and still get 20mpg out on the highway with an ext cab. As for your 700, here is my advice.
-get the UPD, you can get in on the GP and get one w/o the filter for about $150.
-underdrive pulley
-plugs
-MSD or Taylor wires
-descreen the maf (I had bad luck with the GMF)
-electric fans
-maybe a a little exhaust work, or take a few off the list and get a Corsa catback
Notice I didn't say headers? Honestly, they should come last after all the above mods IMO. Oh and like 01 sportside said save a few hundred MORE and add that to the 700 you have and you could get a 5.3 or 6.0 salvaged.

descreening the mass air unit doesn't do anything at all...just removes a few ounces of weight maybe. and i still say you should buy my n2o kit.
