Default Cam or Convertor

Which is next? I just got my tax refund and sold a toy . I have less than $2K so both is not the answer.
For a cam, i'll have to talk to my tuner, he suggested to go to a 224/224 (whatever that means?) but I dont want a radical one. I am looking to get a little more from the low and alot more from the midrange. I dont care to reach speeds over 120mph, just want to leave the hole good and pull all the way there. I would like to hear it a little but still have a good idle.

For Convertor it's Yank or another one , i cant remember the name, stalled to 2400-2600. I want to keep some low end (4x4) use and tow or carry if needed.

Which should i do next, and any thoughts on cam or convertor?

Get the verter first! Go with a fuddle, cuz they are cheap and good. Whenever i blow my verter, im gonna go with a fuddle. If i were you i would do some serious research before you go ***** first into a camshaft. Im still learning on what would work best with my setup. Do your research! JMO

i wouldnt get a cam that big without a converter... if you did a cam tht size first then you are gonna kill the low end. Our trucks are heavy, so that cam is gonna need a good 3000 stall..

the biggest i would go without a stall in a 4x4 is a 212/218.. but a 2600 would be great with that also.

as you go above 212/218 in size you start loosing low end big time so you need a stall to get you off the line and into your power band quicker.

i think a yank 2600-3000 and a 216/220 or a 220/220 is what you are looking for.. but if you are going above 212/218 in cam size, then you need a stall first cause your low end is gonna suk

if you are staying small in cam size(below 212/218) then get the cam or stall.. either would be fine since one doesnt need the other. A 224/224 is a great ls1 fbody cam, but its totally different in our trucks since we weigh 2000 pounds more You will find most of the truck guys have 206/212's, 210/218, 212/218, and 216/220 cam sizes... a select few have 220/220 and bigger

I was thinking of going with the 2600 Truck Thruster. I want the stall around 2400-2600-- to keep my low end and tow, haul, etc. Yank
It's only $375. What do you think of this?

another recommendation for fuddle. great price and John @ fuddle stands behind his product 100 percent. no questions. about the cam. i don't think you want a cam of that size if you don't want to lose some low end. your gonna gain in the mid and upper rpm range. try a smaller 212/216 or something. better yet call one of the sponsors and speak with them about what you want to do and they can recommend a nice cam for it.

If you don't tow more than 5000lbs go with the TT3000,if you tow more go with the TT2600,Either one will really wakeup your truck. But stall is addictive you'll kick yourself later for not getting the TT3000.

The only thing i would be towing is a couple of Harleys, maybe 2500lbs. What about off-road 4x4 use? I drive in snow country on occasion too.

whitt1 is right, stall is addictive. kinda like nitrous. once you feel the truck take off your gonna want more stall.
