CA Trucks w/more than just C.A.R.B. approved mods
#1
I guess this question is mostly for guys like F8TL and jnnybbad and any other Cali trucks that have a more than just a bolt on kit, like me. Have any of you had to go through a smog inspection yet? If so what were the results? Did you have to return anything to stock, do the smog techs know anything about these kits other than they have a C.A.R.B. exemption label. In addition to the C.A.R.B. exempt Procharger, I'm running larger injectors, no FMU w/ tuning that is definetely not "C.A.R.B. legal" and a custom made intake. I have not had to smog a vehicle in years due to buying a new one every couple of years, & I've still got a couple years before I have to worry about this one. I do plan to own this truck for a while. I just hate to have to swap back to stock injectors, FMU, tune etc just to pass visual, when the truck will probably pass the tailpipe test anyway. Will the exemption plate alone get me through the visual?

Next year is my first year to smog.
I plan on having everything set up so that in one day i can dismantle and retune for the smog test and return it back to it's modded state fairly easy.
i'm hoping STS will have CARB #S by then. If not the system is very easy to take apart. My only worries are the 60lbs injectors. I am pretty sure I will have to modify my injector harness to make em work and I'd have to change it back over to put stock ones back in.
I'm sorry i can't answer your question bro. I am sweating smog big time. It wouldn't be so bad if I had a combo up and running for a long time but I want to have the 6.0L in and the boost turned up before spring, only to turn around and have to take crap apart to smog.
For basic STS kits smog will be a pinch. Unbolt, swap injectors and retune. Few hours work.

Just remember most smog techs wont know the difference between a modified kit and an unmodified kit. Never underestamate the lazzy ness of man. If it 'looks' leagal and sniffs clean you should pass

OK I dont live in Cali and I feel sorry for you guys but are you telling me that there arent many many places that do these test that will look the other way with a little extra $$$ Arent these test done at like certain Filling Sations and garages or are they done at like the Dept of Motor Vehicles?

It is not that easy anymore......People have been set up by C.A.R.B and fined BIG money! I know there are a few places by my house in the SFV, but I am sure that will be short lived. You can still make good power within the C.A.R.B laws if you wanted to.
