Buying a burned engine?
#1
I've got a lead on an '04 SS LQ9 complete with tranny (4L65E right?) and transfer case.
But the whole top of the motor is burned; intake melted, wiring harness totalled, etc... Plus I think the accessories are toast also.
If I want to swap this into a '99 5.3 2wd, or perhaps an '01-02, what parts will interchange on the top of the engine? What about the 4wd tranny into a 2wd? Have I read correctly that the tail housing is a little different? I figure losing the wiring harness is no big deal, I''ve got to look at the injectors. What else am I not thinking about to get this motor in and running?
Oh, I know a Neslon tune would be good also.
Thanks,
Michael

The t-housing is different, but I think you can just put your 2wd 60-E one on there, or just stick your 60-E on there. The injectors are probably toast if the wiring and intake are. You'll need the PCM too.
A word of caution: I'm not sure how badly this vehicle was burned, but I would be very cautious about buying this stuff. I see A LOT of burned LSX engines for sale, and with the composite intake, there's no telling what's inside the cylinders. If it was a small fire that was quickily put out, then you might be alright. But if this truck burnt to the ground...forget it! The heat from the fire has "re-tempered" and ruined every metal part on there. Be careful.

Thanks.
They're going to take the intake and everything off and take a look. They said it'd be fine if I was there to look with them. They want to warranty what they sell, so they have a vested interest in making sure nothing made it to the cylinders.
I didn't realize that GM painted some aluminum heads black?
Thanks,
Michael

It could just be carbon build up from the fire.
