Default Building the 5.3: Head gaskets? Head studs?

The 225 Dart heads are on the way, 62cc chambers. The cam will be ordered Monday (224/230 581/588 114) and the meth kit won't be far behind. I have a 3.0 and a 2.8 Radix pulley coming from Nelson and I suppose I"ll be looking at about 10 psi boost.

I will be getting the ARP rod bolts as I plan to spin to about 6800/7000.

I don't want to throw money away if not needed so do you folks think I need the Cometic gaskets and ARP head studs?

Thanks, Jim

I'm going to use ARP head bolts. They run ~$139. The studs are $100 more. I picked up the factory head gaskets from the dealer for $31 each. They are multi layered steel like the Cometics. I'm unsure of how much, if any, the cometics are better than stock. Same basic design. At your boost level I doubt you need to spend the extra money on the cometics. I was running 12lbs boost and had a spout of detonation and my stock head gaskets never went, I can't same the same for 3 pistons
Sounds like you are going to have a bad ride!

Buy the best head gaskets you can find, not having to replace them will save you money in the long run.I run steel o-rings with my setup, overkill maybe but I've never had a problem.

Got it.... I think. What are steel o rings? Where can I get Cometic gaskets. Not at Summit or Jegs. Strange.

Do you think the ARP head bolts are ok or do I want ARP head studs?

Thanks, Jim
