Stage 2 with stock stall is fine. I would not run Stage 3 without a higher stall, especially on a smaller motor.
I prefer the CamMotion truck cams, partly because they are spec’d by engine size to help the keep the 4.8s and 5.3s from over-camming.

“Safe” isn’t the issue, it’s just not designed to work well with that setup.

Lightbulb old thread but i have a question

so I was thinking of going with the btr stage 3 cam and never found anything really positive on hp gains so im asking if anyone on here has any numbers. it will be going in a 5.3 lm7 with 706 ported polished heads with a msd atomic airforce intake and 102+ throttle body and bigger injectors, does anyone have any input on the set up? and cam gains? and what should I do to the transmission, stall size etc...? and info and input or opinions even the thrashing ones and ones about getting a 6.0 are helpful. I do all my own work just not trans work so any tech tips helpful also, pleeease and thank you. or should I get a thumpr stage 1 not much diff in the specs?

can't talk at all to the auto trans driving/tuning at all being's mine's a stick, but my LM7 loves it. i'll admit 4.30 gears were a bit overkill in my case (having a standard), but it loves chilling around 1800rpm around town. that's with CAI, stock intake manifold/TB, and 1 3/4" LTs.

unless you're boosting or something, the 90mm TB on a NNBS intake is plenty more than you'd need on a cam-only 5.3.
mine's only street-tuned & hasn't been on a dyno in about 8yrs, so no numbers for ya.

Stick with a 90mm and save yourself some headache. I think you will like the cam, just make sure it will work with your converter.

I was only thinking of the bigger throttle for future reasons, I am looking for a 6.0 and 4l80 trans also and everything would be swappable. planned on stroking the 6.0, the lm7 is too small for a 383 or bigger. but I will do a 90mm and just get the bigger one later or get both and dyno both idk yet. thanks for the input. anyone else out there im still looking for numbers!.

nope. probably wouldn't hurt, but i didn't. just threw in some BTR springs & hardened pushrods and called it good.
and i've seen a few guys do LM7 383s (i think, technically 382, but hey)

i have the stage 3 btr in a 5.3 with 706 ported n polished heads with a .30 mill. Long tubes, full 3” borla exhaust, intake ,373, and a hp tune, on a stock stall and it runs great, beautiful note on the idle. It my daily and I haven’t had no issues.
