Default brake question/problem

When ever I hit the brakes, sometimes there is a click/clunk noise that comes from the calipers. I know its the callipers because I took them off an put them back on a while back and it stopped. Then it started back up. I think what is happening is when I apply the brakes the calliper squeezes the rotor and then rolls ever so slightly forward causing a clunk noise. My question is if you take the wheel off should you be able to grab hold of the calliper and move it forwads and or backwards about a 1/4 inch or so. Do you guys have any idea of whats wrong or has this ever occured with you guys trucks? It been going on for a while now and doesn't seem to be hurting anything but its getting on my nerves. Thanks

I really dont think you are soposed to be able to move the callipers at all. I would really have to look at your truck to accually figure out what was wrong. But i dont think the callipers should move like that. Im a mechanic, and all the breaks i have ever done the callipers never moved like that. Good luck bro. I hope you get it figured out.

Maybe take a look at the slide pins and the bushing/hole they're supposed to slide in...if either is worn, that will cause a clunk. If the pads are loose in the saddles that'll give you noises also.
