Great post! I agree it is STICKEY WORTHY!

Like was just mentioned above, I would LOVE to see a thread with before and after dyno numbers as each part is installed. It would be very interesting, IMHO. The biggest issue would be is that it would have to be done by someone who has free access to a dyno

From what I have seen from dyno runs, headers don't cost out very well. I saw a gain of about 8 to 10 hp for around $500 to $800 or more. Doesn't seem like a good trade off. I think a good tune and cam swap would be a better deal.

It would be interesting to see some dyno runs of a stock truck and then add exhaust mods and run again. Then air intake and run again, and then a tune, and see what happens. I have a feeling the the exhaust is more for cool sound factor than pure performance. I can't say that my true duals with an H pipe did a lot for my 8.1
There is one on LS1TECH.COM I'll try to find it

Thumbs up Thanks nightrunner for the good info!!!

Thanks nightrunner! %100, AAA+++ It will help me a lot.

I'm about to start my first project ever. It's a garage project. And I apreciate all the info posted.
But as a rookie, I still need some help with it. Hope you can help me.
What I want to do is exactly what is done on the october Hot Rod magazine, page 116. For who don't have the mag: they turn a LQ9 into a car engine.

Here come some of my questions so far:

To clear the low profile intake manifold, they used a complete Camaro front accesory dress. Is it the only front accesory dress that will fit on the bolts in the LQ9? Can I also use one from a Corvette or GTO? Is it necesary to change the whole dress just to clear the idler pulley?

Bassicly, my question is: how different is the LQ9 block from the LS2?
I know they are the same block, just different metals (at least that's what they told me in the LS1tech forum). I just want to be sure and do things right since the beggining

Thanks for any help!

actually to clear the car intake TB inlet, you can now use a water pump from a L92 truck, a gmc sierra denali or a cadillac escalade, and you can keep the truck accessories. the water neck on it is different and therefore it will clear.

im not familiar with the article but if you plan on keeping the shortblock intact, swapping to higher compression(smaller combustion chamber) heads and a car style intake should be the only differences in a truck and car style app.

Replacing the gears in your differential wont increase your HP or TQ but will help get you off the line better and make it feel faster. But be careful, bigger is not always better here. The higher the ratio, the better you will get off the line, but the more rpms you will turn on the highway and in turn the worse mpg you will get.

Might want to clarify this a bit seeing as it's often confused. The higher numerically gears (which are known as low gears) will get off the line faster. Lower numerically gears (known as high gears) are better for the highway/top speed.
