I put a 216/220 114 in a stock 4.8. THe only mods on his truck was a drop in KN filter and a catback exhaust. It made a world of difference in the truck!

With those gears, I wouldn't be to afraid of a TR224 on a 112.

HaHa, thats part of the problem, I do my own tuning.

This is partly why I think this sight is a little misleading at times. I get some saying the cam I have now is on the edge and others saying a 224 would still be good.

Its all good info though, I appreciate all of the opinions.

Was that a 5-speed or an auto? Big difference between the two as far as driveability with a larger cam.

I put a 205/212, .540/.540, 114 in my Avalanche and it gained low-end. I wasn't willing to go more than that.

tr220 114 FTW!! i didnt like my 216/214 110+0 without a stall on 3.42 gears but the tr220 is advanced 4 degrees so you will gain a little more down low than me because you will have a wider lsa and a larger powerband. Plus you have gears to back it up with. Id say go for it.

A cam is going to gain low end. As long as you don't overcam the motor with something like a 233/239 113 in a 5.3. It sounds totally wicked, but that's just to much cam for the motor. If you keep it reasonable, it will gain low end, but it will really shine up high. That's a common misconception is that you loose low end with a bigger cam. That's not always the case.

Thats the thing. I honestly dont feel like I lost bottom end with this cam. I'm not completely sure of the stock duration, but my cam is something like 20 degrees more. Is another 8 gonna make it totally fall flat on its face?
